The following are the requirements to participate in athletics while in attendance at HML. These rules have been established by the Florida State Legislature, the Florida High School Athletic Association, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and the Greater Miami Athletic Conference. These rules are as follows:
- must have a certified copy of proof of age on file with the Athletic Director such as a Birth Certificate, Passport, Resident Alien Card, etc. (a student's eligibility ceases upon turning 19 years, 9 months of age)
- must have an annual physical with the appropriate notarized form on file with the Athletic Trainer (annual physicals are valid from May 15 of each year for one year)
- must purchase the Miami-Dade County school board approved football and/or student accident insurance (students who purchase football insurance must also purchase student accident insurance)
- must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0
- must maintain a cumulative conduct grade point average of 2.0 during each semester
- students who completes the 8th grade, as defined by the Miami-Dade County Public School's Pupil Progression Plan, will have 4 consecutive years of eligibility from the time the student enters the 9th grade
A student is allowed to make-up one credit or up to 2 half credits during an approved summer session. A student must earn a "C" or better. Only one credit per year can be counted for courses taken in adult education classes. All "F" grades, Incompletes, and "NC's" will be tabulated in the grade point average and will count as 0 points. Eligibility is checked at the conclusion of each semester and at the conclusion of summer school.
